Banks

More often than not you don't need to go deep into the woods in order to find mushrooms. This picture shows an old disused forester track. For reasons which I don't know all kinds of mushrooms like such banks with mossy patches and light fern growth and the area 20 yards on either side. Clearly visible the two dotted stemmed boletes' in the foreground. The rollover picture shows them from a bit closer: note the moss and the ferns.

When mushroom hunting do not look for mushrooms! If you expect to see something in the shape of a mushroom you'll never find one. Look for irregular features and colours on the ground. Once you found a couple of mushrooms your brain will automatically look for the right signals and bring the goodies into focus.
